Which Flooring For Your Home Office?

06 May 2022

You may not think it but the flooring in your office says a lot about where you work. Various kinds of flooring give their own subtle flourishes in the way that a home office feels. Of course, you could just continue the carpet from the hall – and there’s nothing wrong with doing that. However, many people want to add a sense of ‘otherness’ to their home office – a clear separation between their home life and their work life.

In this article, we’ll be exploring the ways that various kinds of flooring can transform a room in order to create a home office that you will love to work in.

Carpeted Flooring

As previously mentioned, carpeted flooring is perhaps the closest to a traditional homely feeling. Carpeting feels relaxing on the feet, and it holds heat relatively well, meaning that you can walk around barefoot in winter without having to wear shoes or socks. At the same time, you have a lot more personalisation options with carpeting than you do with either laminated flooring or hardwood.

However, carpeting does require the most effort to clean properly, and there is the argument that carpeting does wear out much quicker than laminated flooring or real hardwood flooring – meaning that you can expect to need to buy a new carpet every 5 – 10 years or so.

Laminated Flooring

Your next option is laminated flooring. Unlike carpeting, which gives a room a warm, comfortable feeling, laminated flooring has a cooler feeling – not unlike hardwood flooring. Laminated flooring gives you a few personalisation options; however, there are far fewer options than there are with carpeted flooring. In return for this loss of personalisation, however, you will find that it is much easier to clean laminate flooring than it is to clean carpet.

Laminate flooring will give your home office a clean and modern feeling and is ideal if you’re working in fields such as professional painting, IT, or anything involving sewing. The ease of cleaning means that you can keep your space clean and sterile without much hassle.

Real Hardwood Flooring

The third option available from Value Carpets is real hardwood flooring. Though somewhat expensive in comparison to both carpeting and laminate flooring, real hardwood flooring offers a unquestionably unique feeling, which is at once high quality and inviting.

Like laminate flooring, real hardwood flooring is very easy to clean, meaning that you could potentially do creative tasks such as painting over real hardwood flooring; however, we believe that this kind of flooring really shines when doing IT tasks and other tasks which require sterility in order to perform more efficiently. There are two reasons for this:

  1. Like laminated flooring, hardwood flooring is extremely easy to keep sterile, meaning that you normally don’t have to worry about dust and other contaminants.
  2. Unfortunately, hardwood flooring doesn’t retain heat particularly well. However, this does give you an advantage when it comes to devices which must be kept cool in order to work properly – like computers.

However, if you do decide to install  real hardwood flooring in your home office/studio, we’re pretty sure that you’re going to enjoy your purchase.

“So Which One Should I Go With?”

The type of flooring you go with depends greatly on your personal preferences and budget. As we’ve mentioned, carpeted flooring helps to maintain the warm home environment and helps to keep your office warm during winter months. However, if keeping your home office clean is a key consideration then you may want to consider hardwood flooring or laminate flooring. Whichever one you choose, you’ll find it at Value Carpets.
