Guidelines to Keep Your Flooring Looking Fantastic
To begin with, never push or drag furniture around on laminated flooring; lift furniture when it needs to be moved.
We would also recommend placing soft castors under chairs and table legs to prevent scratches and dents.
If there is an instance where substances such as candle wax or chewing gum become stuck to your flooring, use ice to harden it then scrape off using a plastic scraper. Wipe clean using a lightly damp cloth then use a well-wrung mop to clean with water and add vinegar to bring its shine back.
Cleaning on a Budget
Doormats help to keep dirt from outside being walked into your home. As we have previously mentioned, you can use a mix of water and vinegar to clean and shine your flooring. Please remember to not over wet the floor as this can lead to water spots or warping on laminated flooring.
Dealing with Dirt and Spills
For any spillage, we recommend using a damp cloth and then wipe the floor down with a dry cloth immediately. Sweep your floor regularly with a soft broom or vacuum using a hard floor attachment to keep floors free of dust and dirt. Dry microfibre mops or cloths will also remove and collect loose dust and dirt.
Removing Shoe Scuffs from Laminated Flooring
Follow these simple steps (excuse the pun), to remove shoe scuffs from your flooring –
- Wipe the scuff mark with a wet sponge
- Use a rubber eraser and rub it along the grain of the wood, but do not use plastic or gritty erasers as this could damage your wood floor
- Repeat this process until the scruff has gone
Eliminating Scratches on Laminate Floor
Laminate floors are designed to be very hard-wearing and stand up to everyday life, but sometimes they can get scratched.
Check with our team when purchasing your new flooring if it comes with added scratch guards.
Never use a scouring pad or any other abrasive implement for cleaning. Remove your shoes before walking on laminate as smalls stones from your shoes can scratch the floor plus using a doormat will help.
