3 Reasons To Consider Hardwood Floors This Summer

01 Apr 2022

Although you wouldn’t think it from the weather, we’re half-way through spring and summer is just around the corner.  So it’s the perfect time to consider reflooring your home, right?

Absolutely right.

However, when you decide to refinish the floor, you’re faced with the question of what material  to finish the floor in. There’s carpet, of course; and vinyl flooring is a great option. However, for our money, the best option for the summer time is hardwood.

Yes, hardwood flooring is a little bit more expensive than vinyl flooring or carpeting, but there are some key benefits associated with good quality hardwood flooring that make it the ideal choice for any spring/summer renovations. In this article, we’ll be going through some of the reasons why you might want to consider hardwood flooring. So, without further ado:

Hardwood Flooring increases The Visual Space of the Room

The first (and possibly most important) reason why you should consider having hardwood flooring installed in your home is because it helps to increase the visual space of the room in question. This is especially true in comparison to a solution such as carpeting.

Over the past few years, the necessity of having enough visual space has become more and more apparent, as have the psychological issues associated with not having enough. Humans need space: we’re not comfortable in small, confined rooms for long periods of time. As such, a design shift away from maximizing the amount of material within your room is only natural, and we think bare wooden flooring looks great. Plus, when it comes to the winter you can just lay a rug.

Cools The Room

The next reason why you should be considering refinishing your floor with hardwood is because, unlike carpets, wooden flooring is very good at cooling a space. This makes hardwood flooring the ideal material for the summer – when temperatures can easily reach 80 degrees Fahrenheit.

Helps With Hay fever

Roughly 25% of the population deal with hay fever during the spring and summer months, and while the symptoms aren’t serious by themselves, for a consistent sufferer it is still something to worry about. As a result, any kind of reprieve is something they welcome. And a reprieve is just what a hardwood floor brings.

With a carpeted floor, pollen (which causes hay fever) gets trapped within the fibres of the carpet. Occasionally, the carpet gets cleaned properly and the pollen is either sucked up into a hoover or destroyed chemically. However, in the meantime, the person who suffers from hay fever is forced to suffer. Sometimes the person cleaning the carpet doesn’t clean it properly –  maybe they don’t use the proper chemicals when cleaning the carpet – or maybe the pollen particle is in a really awkward position, and so doesn’t get sucked up. Either way, the end result is the same: the pollen is still there and the person is still suffering with hay fever.
